Winter works

The large back bedroom - fireplace newly revealed
October half term has finished, the kids have done Halloween and we've had our bonfire.
Two days of bonfire to be fair, as several people in the village thought they'd help with some more wood, and we had enough to keep it burning for 2 days, so breakfast by the bonfire this morning was rather unusual!

Living room
Anyway, it's just the odd booking now till Christmas, so it's time for the winter works.  Damon has started off by stripping the walls and ceilings out of Etive View, in order to insulate everything and resheet.  The work started with

taking all the carpets up, moving all the furniture by stacking the large bits in the kitchen and the bathroom (most of it was taken up there through the window outside, so taking it down would not be popular!).  Next it was taking all the walls down, then the messiest part was taking the ceilings down.  In old houses the ceilings all have soot above them to dampen the noise.  Within minutes Damon and Tony looked like full on Mary Poppins chimney sweeps (pictures yet to come).

Front bedroom
So far two ceilings now have insulation stuffed between the rafters, plus a layer of urethane board stapled below it.  Just a layer of plasterboard sheets to go.  As the cherry picker doesn't appear to work at the moment, taking all the stuff up the stairs is rather tiring.
