So Close

I spent last Friday and Saturday over on Mull working my way through the jobs needed to get our building warrant and it all went wonderfully quickly, so that by Saturday morning we only had the drains to dig. The digger arrived lifted the arm to start digging and.....whoosh....hydraulic fluid sprayed out everywhere....and that was the end of the digger.

Not being able to face digging a 75m of ditch in rocky ground by hand I'm in the process of organising another digger, which is stuck on Iona at the moment so it may be a few weeks.........

The photo was taken down at the beach by the house, with good equinox gales to whip up the sea.

Latest News- Building Warrant

The building inspector came over yesterday, and we have a list of a few things left to do that will get the certificate. So, once Damon is back from climbing in Glen Nevis today, we'll start to set up the website and take bookings from Christmas 2009.
This photo shows the kitchen with the electric range. I loved cooking on it in the summer - probably even more than our Aga at home, as it doesn't lose heat when you're cooking for 8. Even rising and baking bread was no hassle, and a griddle for drop scones.

Sunset in Oban

After a swim and a meal out in Oban last Friday we went for a walk along the front in Oban and enjoyed a beautiful warm evening walk and sunset complete with an ice cream from every childs favourite new shop, The Pokey Hat, a very pink shop that sells nothing but ice creams.

Escape from Mull

On the second week we had on Mull in August we were congratulating ourselves on avoiding the worst of the weather that had hit the rest of Scotland when on the last night it started to rain. And it rained and it rained and it rained! The photo shows the road back up to the ferry the next morning, where one of the many rivers had burst it banks and flooded the road.

A date finally

The photo is of the coast line a 30 minute walk from the house, there are lots of basalt columns and caves like a miniature Fingals cave on Staffa just north of Iona.
We finally have a date for building control to go over to Mull in the middle of this month, so unless it is change we should get some idea of what still requires doing to finish things off. I'm sure there will be some bits, but hopefully not too much.
The sun has finally started shining again here after the worst August I can remember, it seems to have done nothing but rain and I've felt very sorry for our guests this year.
