Secret Britain

One of our guests kindly pointed out out this BBC programme featuring a section on Loch Etive, it starts about 15 minutes in if anyone is interested.

I sailed our wayfarer around Kerrera and over to Lismore last week in stunning weather and saw lots of seals, otters and birds as well as a lovely close up view of a basking shark, this one looked quite small only 15 feet! They are the second largest fish in the world, but aren't dangerous and feed off plankton. There is  wonderful book by Gavin Maxwell (who wrote "Ring of bright Water") about trying to set up a fishing industry around the oil in their livers during the 1950's called "Harpoon at a Venture"

Renate has just had a week sailing round Mull in weather like this everyday! She visited Lismore, Tobermory, Kilchoan, Coll, Lunga, Bunessan and sailed down the sound of Iona and right the way round the south coast of Mull to Loch Spelve before heading back up the sound of Kerrera to Oban. There really isn't anywhere else better in world when you get weeks like this.
